Collegiate Flute Masterclass Competition

The Collegiate Flute Masterclass Competition is open to all flutists currently enrolled in a college or university. Each applicant may record any flute and piano work, flute solo, or a movement of a flute work of your choice. Applicants will be judged based on accuracy of rhythm, intonation, and technique and overall interpretation and musicianship. The winners will perform for the 2026 guest artist, Demarre McGill in the Collegiate Flute Masterclass, on March 1st, 2026. The masterclass is open to all registered festival attendees.

 

Competition Requirements (recordings must be emailed, registration forms must be completed, and payment must be made by 11:59pm on January 23rd, 2026):

Record one flute and piano work or a movement of a flute work of your choice. Unaccompanied pieces are acceptable too.

  • The recording must be unedited! However, different movements may be recorded on different tracks.
  • Do not speak or make any identifying sound on your recording.
  • Previous winners are eligible to participate.
  • Incomplete entries will not be judged.
  • All judges’ decisions are final.

 

To Submit Your Recording: 

1. Email your recording in MP3 format to Hallie.ward@usm.edu no later than 11:59pm on January 23rd, 2026.

  • In the subject line of your email, enter LFS 2026 COLLEGIATE FLUTE MASTERCLASS COMPETITION.
  • In your email, include your name as you prefer it to be listed in the program.
  • List the school and program (Undergraduate/Graduate) in which you are currently enrolled.
  • List repertoire selection.

2. Submit your festival registration forms and payment HERE, no later than 11:59pm on January 23rd, 2026. Materials submitted after January 23rd and/or without payment will not be considered.

 

*To be eligible for our Guest Artist Masterclass Competitions, you are required to be a member of the Louisiana Flute Society. Registration fees include LFS membership dues.
